Types of Prostheses
Originally, artificial eyes were made out of glass. These eyes were very fragile and would often break causing injury to the patient. In recent years, these prostheses are made from a medical grade acrylic plastic Poly Methyl Methacrylate PMMA. This new material reduces the risk of injury, It is inert and non-reactive and improves the ability to be painted to match the patient’s other eye, as well as increases the stability and longevity of the prosthetic.

Ready made Artificial eyes are ready made and are fit by trial and error method. These stock eyes are mass produced in a variety of standard sizes, shapes, and its iris colours. The practitioner of stock ocular prosthesis must try several different shapes and sizes into the socket in an effort to find one that appears to fit look like the companion eye.
Fabrication Time: Approx. 2-3 hours
Custom made artificial eye is recommended by Ocular Plastic Surgeon and Oculist because the individual characteristics and physical requirements of the wearer are taken into consideration. Custom made artificial eyes generally provide greater comfort, better eye movement and a superior natural looking result.
Fabrication Time: approx. 48 hours
New light weight prosthesis for empty sockets is 50% lighter than conventional prosthesis. The new light weight prosthesis doubles the mobility and does not require cleaning 4,5 times a day. It requires cleaning only once in two weeks
New light weight ocular prosthesis is used in large ocular sockets. Bio-incompatible residuals are removed through specialized heat activated polymerization which makes this prosthesis 95% monomer free. It is absolutely inert and socket friendly and is extremely smooth and non-absorbent (Hydro-Phobic)
Fabrication Time: Approx. 72 hours
In growing children, Prosthesis needs to be changed frequently. On-Professionals replace it with used large prosthesis which causes continuous superfluous discharge and cross infection. Re modelling technique is the only hygienic facility offered by Sights.
